WestCOT - The World That Never Was #2
Disneyland is Walt's park. It's Walt's resort. It's also a place that has grown into a much bigger space beyond Walt Disney's vision. Thanks to the corporation, the Disneyland resort has become a multi-day experience. The Downtown Disney district, California Adventure, and Disney create a space that people want to visit for multiple days, but that wasn't always the case, and in the 1990s, Michael Eisner and the Disney company saw the Disneyland resort as a much different space. This is that story.
WestCOT, the West Coast's version of Florida's Epcot, was a huge assignment. The park would have been massive, not only in land
space, but in height. WestCOT would have housed spaces that would teach us about science and technology as well as the cultures from continents around the world. What happened to WestCOT was something Disney and Michael Eisner didn't count on. This episode is about a corporation vs. local goverment vs. local people.
